Viktor Uzur

Violoncello

 

Victor Uzur began studying cello at a school for musically  gifted children in Yugoslavia as a student of Relya Chetkovich. During this time he also attended a number of music camps working with Michael Flaksman, David Gregorian, Nataliya Shakovskaya and Alexander Fedorchenko.

At the age of seventeen he was accepted into the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow, Russia. Studying under Alexander Fedorchenko and Dmitri Miller for six years, he graduated in 1995 receiving his Masters in Cello Performance with special recognition as a concert performer. He holds a doctoral degree in cello performance Michigan State University as a student of Suren Bagratuni.

 

Since coming to the United States, Uzur has attended master classes conducted by Bernard Greenhouse, Lynn Harrell, Suren Bagratuni, Carter Brey and Peter Wiley. In 1989 Uzur won his first major award, receiving top prize at the Yugoslav National Competition in Sarajevo. Other honors include a prize at the “Jeuness Musicales” International Competition in Belgrade in 1995. In 1997, Uzur was a national finalist in the MTNA competition in Dallas, Texas, and in 1998 he was a finalist in the ASTA competition in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He was awarded a Certificate of Merit as a semi-finalist in the XI International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow and in 2002 was a winner of Michigan State University, Honors Competition.

 

From 1992 to 1999 Uzur held the principle chair in the ARCO Moscow Chamber Orchestra and has been featured as a soloist with the group in Spain, France, Russia, Canada, Korea, Latvia, and the United States. He has been frequently featured on several television stations in Russia and former Yugoslavia. Uzur is a Recording Artist for the Blue Griffin Recording Inc., with whom he has two CD releases. He taught at several music festivals in Europe and America and is on the cello faculty at the Albion College, USA.
